Accessibility Statement

KitchenSense is committed to making smart, sustainable cooking accessible to everyone. We've designed the app to work for users of all abilities, on both iPhone and iPad, and we continually improve our accessibility support.

Supported accessibility features

VoiceOver

KitchenSense is fully compatible with Apple's VoiceOver screen reader. All interactive elements, icons, and images have meaningful labels so visually impaired users can navigate, scan ingredients, browse recipes, and cook hands-free with full audio guidance.

Voice Control

Every action in KitchenSense uses native controls (buttons, links, form fields), so iOS Voice Control works throughout the app — you can tap buttons, scroll, and navigate entirely by voice. The app also includes a built-in voice command mode for hands-free cooking.

Larger Text

KitchenSense includes a built-in text size setting (Default, Large, Extra Large) under Profile → Accessibility, which scales the entire interface for easier reading.

Dark Interface

A full dark mode is available and follows your iOS system appearance by default. You can also toggle it manually from the profile menu at any time.

Differentiate Without Color Alone

Important information never relies on colour alone. Expiry warnings, status badges, checked items, and alerts all combine icons, text labels, and shape changes so they remain clear to users with colour vision deficiencies.

Sufficient Contrast

The app's default colour palette meets WCAG 2.1 AA contrast standards. An optional High Contrast mode is available under Accessibility settings for users who need stronger contrast between text and background.

Reduced Motion

Animations and transitions can be disabled under Profile → Accessibility → Reduce Motion. This setting also respects your iOS system preference automatically.

• Skip-to-content link — screen reader and keyboard users can jump straight to the main content area on every page.
• Hands-free cooking mode — voice commands to step through recipes without touching your device.
• Touch-friendly targets — all buttons and tap areas meet Apple's recommended minimum size.
• Alt text on images — recipe photos and illustrations include descriptive alternative text.
• Consistent layout — predictable navigation across iPhone and iPad.

iPad support

Every accessibility feature listed above works identically on iPad, with layouts that adapt to take advantage of the larger screen.
